The Niwa family has resided in Southern Alberta for over 100 years. Greg Niwa incorporated Niwa Crane in 1977 with one crane to provide crane services in Medicine Hat. By 1979, Greg had 9 cranes and his brother Bruce Niwa joined him in the business. Niwa Crane was partners in Northstar Crane in Calgary for many years before selling out to Sterling Crane. Continuing the family ownership into the next generation, Brandon Niwa, Greg’s son, has worked with his father since he was 15 years old. Chris Richardson has also been with the company for 20 years.
Sports, Scholarships and a Community Foundation
Niwa Crane believes in giving back to the community that has nurtured our family and business. The Niwa family established The Niwa Family Fund with the Community Foundation of Medicine Hat & Southeastern Alberta. The Niwa Family Fund’s latest project was helping to build a hockey arena for the Community of Acadia Valley. Our project before that was the expansion of Camp McCoy at Elkwater. Niwa Crane’s community support has seen our company name on the backs of many a hockey, baseball and soccer jersey throughout the years. Our community support also extends to the McCoy High School Scholarship Program, YMCA, Food Bank, 4H Clubs, Cancer Relay for Life and many, many other worthwhile causes in our community.
